Everest
SC, a U-17 boys soccer team, finished as
runners-up at the United States Youth Soccer
Association national championships this week
in Little Rock, Ark.
The team
advanced to nationals by winning the
14-state Midwest Regional tournament.
The
national tournament format was a round robin
between the top team from each of the four
regions. The two teams with the best records
then faced each other for the national
title.
Included
in Everest's bracket was FC Delco from
Pennsylvania, Andromeda 91 from Texas and
Diablo FC from California. Everest went
2-0-1 in pool play, beating FC Delco and
Diablo, 4-2 and 2-1, respectively, and tying
Andromeda, 1-1.
Everest
met Andromeda in the title game, where it
lost, 1-0.
Everest
players are from the Cleveland area, as well
as Toledo and Erie, Pa. Most of the players
will be entering their senior year of high
school next month.
The team
is coached by John Fenix of Westlake. The
program director is Jason Hopkins.
